The shelves with the big bins were already designated as member storage.
Or at least that's what I thought. Members have been taking a bin and
labeling them so people know to not touch that stuff. However, this was
sort of unofficially decided and I bet many people do not know this.
I agree that we should be trying to leave the workbench cleaner then when
you found it. I'm not sure I want to have to put up signs of that nature
but a reminder is nice. I think the main reason this isn't happening right
now is that no one really knows where to put stuff when they are done with
it. If we can come up with a good solution to organize shared tools and
maybe label the place where certain tools should go it will help.
I need to get rid of a bunch of old projects that are taking up space, like
the tesla coil, electric chair, etc. They are nice to have around for
events but they just take up too much space. I plan to do this in the
upcoming weeks. I think it was Bob that had an idea the other day to maybe
take photos of those larger projects to put up on the wall. That way
people can still see what we have accomplished but it won't take up a ton
Another idea might be to have a tear-down night where we just take apart
all the old electronic junk we don't want and keep the usable parts. We
can stick the parts on that Norvac shelf and then throw away all the
plastic casing and PCBs that take up all the room. This would probably end
up being a recurring event every few months as our junk pile grows. I know
HeatSync Labs does this occasionally and they seem to be able to make a fun
night of it. It's easy for people to do and they get to see the insides of
some stuff that they never would have thought they would see.
