[EMS Discuss] New welder for the shop
Mon Jun 11 12:14:52 PDT 2012
I'll chip in $40 to help pay for such an awesome tool. Thanks for aquireing a welder for the shop Rick!
We should think about putting together a welding class to teach members how to use the mig welder, and if any members have oxy-acetylene, TIG, or stick welders, they could bring them down (if sized for easy transportation) and we could have multiple welding stations to train on. I have taken two years of metalworking classes, so I'd be happy to volunteer as an instructor or assistant. We could even open the class up to the community, provided we could manage the legal risks.

James graciously brought his welder down to the shop and we had planned on using that one but unfortunately it has reached an untimely demise. I ended up going down to Harbor Freight and purchasing their 170Amp MIG/Flux wire welder so we can finish the project. I intend to leave it at the shop so everyone can use it when needed but I thought I would see if anyone was willing to chip in for the purchase and we can just say it is a shop owned tool. Here is a link to the welder I purchased:
