It's possible on a makerbot/reprap style machine. The stratasys machine is inline with makerbot except it has a heated chamber. Bed size of the machine is the only major problem I would see.

Regarding firing the gun: I am not commenting from a concerned about misuse, mishandling of a firearm, or the ethics. This is purely a safety thing. This gun is experimental and I would only fire it with the expectation that it would explode.

It has exploded with multiple shots. It was probably from a weakening of internal component over time. However, it is possible that a first shot could fail. Especially when you factor in that every machine prints a little differently.

If it were me, I would remote fire it (like they do on mythbusters) but its up to you and your family to decide what is an except able risk.

In full disclosure, I do have a lot of legal and ethical concerns about THIS weapon, it's making and owning particularly for a minor. I do not have the same issues with guns in general.
