City Synth transforms the city of Eugene into a musical instrument. Funded by a Mozilla Gigabit Community Fund Grant, the project uses Eugene’s new Gigabit Fiber network to transmits high-resolution live video feeds from across the Eugene metropolitan area to the Broadway Commerce lobby. The project interprets real-time movement and color images as synthesized sound and video art to activate Eugene’s dynamic downtown life. Views and sounds of the City fill the lobby space. As a result, the cityscape becomes a soundscape and visual canvas. Participants may interact with the city in real-time via a central indoor interface, which controls the gigabit powered video feeds. City Synth is led by art collective Harmonic Laboratory, with partners: South Eugene Robotics Team (SERT), XS Media, and City of Eugene Cultural Services.
Exhibition opening First Friday ArtWalk, Feb. 2, 2018. Installation up all month in Broadway Commerce Lobby.
