Eugene Maker Space Spring Update
Spring is upon us, and Eugene Maker Space continues to re-build. We’ve hosted a number of pop-up events around Eugene since we last checked in with the blog back in November and are meeting a few times a week to continue making and building community.
We’re moved out of the old McKinley space (RIP) and we’ve moved the tools we salvaged in to storage while we look for suitable spaces or partnerships. If you’re interested in helping us find a space or know the perfect space for us please hop on our Discord to chat or email board@eugenemakerspace.com
.
Even though we do not have our own space, Eugene Maker Space continues to host events in the community, and we’d love it if you could join us at either one of our weekly events or our upcoming pop-up Maker Space event.
Pop-Up Event Report: Hack Night at Dark Pine
In January we hosted a pop-up makerspace event at Dark Pine Coffee. We invited people to show up and hack on programmable NFC tags, 3D printing, radios and Arduino, and generally had a good time bringing the community together to work on projects.

Pop-Up Event Report from Shift Cycles
Back in February, we brought the Makerspace popup to Shift Cycles. We did a little 3d printing, talked bike wiring and joined Shift’s volunteers checking over and fixing donated bikes. We hope to do it again – there’s a great overlap in our communities and interests.
Upcoming Pop-Up Event: Re-imagine Earth Day at Lane County Farmer’s Market on April 13
On April 13 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Eugene Maker Space will be joining MECCA, BRING, Shift Community Cycles, and others at the Farmers Market Pavilion with an Earth Day celebration. We’ve been hard at work putting together a bunch “bottle lights” which use a dead AA battery, an empty bottle and a little ingenuity and DIY effort to make pretty and useful night light/mood lights. Its part of a story we want to tell about using a little technology and crafting skills to upcycle some of the flotsam and jetsam of our society into happy-making things for around the house. At the event we’ll have a hands-on opportunity to customize your own bottles, get the last juice out of your old batteries and put it to use lighting up your life.

Tuesdays: Open Snack Night at PLAY Eugene
Every Tuesday we meet up at PLAY:Eugene on 5th Ave at 6:00 PM for our Open Snack Night — come socialize with the group and show off what you’re working on. This is a great opportunity to get to know the community and day-dream about what the next incarnation of EMS will look like, and maybe even enjoy a game of pinball together.

Sundays: Cozy Crafting Sundays
On Sundays, we have our Cozy Crafting meetup at 10:00 AM at Portal Tea in downtown Eugene. Making things is more than just using 3D printers and soldering stations and table saws, so bring your craft-y self and a project, whether it’s fiber and fabric or paper and washi tape or whatever crafting you want to enjoy.

Mondays: Amateur Tinker Night
Our freshest meetup is the Amateur Tinker Night Monday evenings at 6:00 PM at Portal Tea in downtown Eugene. The Amateur Tinker Night is an opportunity to work on electronics-related projects like circuit design and Arduino microcontroller programming, especially from the perspective of a beginner. Any level of knowledge is welcome, the Tinker Night is an environment for sharing skills and including everyone in hands-on learning, collaborating, and creating.
