Build Progress Continues! January 2026

Completely rebuilding a makerspace is a big complex job, and we’re grateful for all the volunteers who have been contributing to the project over the last few months. We’re getting closer having the main items in place that it will take to open for member making. Once we do open, members will hopefully keep up the momentum, further honing the space and turning EMS into exactly what our community wants and needs,

The Proto Lab is just about ready to roll. We’re working on servicing the laser cutter and 3D printers, and developing documentation and training best practices, in preparation for regular use. We’re also working on organizing tool storage in this area.

The Textile Lab is nearly complete as well. In addition to a few different types of sewing machines, vinyl cutters, and looms, we’ve added a freezer for yarn and fabric donations. Freezing second-hand textiles prevents nuisance critters like moths. We’ve also added a space with a variety of large backdrops and lighting for project photography.

The Wood Shop build is moving right along, with recent table saw and work bench donations. We’re also in the process of updating our electrical system to accommodate all the various tools, and planning construction of the dividing wall and dust collection to keep the shop and the other areas clean and tidy.

We can always use volunteers to take the lead on projects and help us cross the finish line. Feel free to drop by on Tuesday nights 6-8pm to see where your skills and interests fit into the mix. These “Make Your Makerspace” work parties are still going strong. EMS is 100% volunteer-led, so we appreciate any and all support!
